UAPD Programs

The University of Alabama Police Department offers a variety of programs available to student organizations, classes, faculty and staff professional groups, civic groups and local K-12 schools. To request a program, email uapdprograms@ua.edu.

Lost and Found

UAPD receives and stores lost property that has been found on campus.

If you find an item and can't locate the owner, bring the item to the UA Police Center at 1110 Jackson Ave., or call UAPD at 205-348-5454 and an officer will meet you to pick up the item on campus. You can also turn in items that you find at the information desk in the UA Student Center, the front desks inside UA Recreation Centers and residence halls, or library circulation desks.

If you have lost an item, check the list of items that have been found on the Lost and Found website to see if the item has been turned in. All recovered property is kept up to 90 days and then disposed of according to state statute.

Before you can retrieve an item from Lost and Found you must be able to identify the item before viewing or handling it.

You must make an appointment to identify any property by calling 205-348-5454 and speaking with the property custodian. Appointments are only available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Appointments cannot be made for weekends or UA-observed holidays.

Fingerprinting

University Police will assist in the fingerprinting of students where it applies to the requirements of a field of study or major. Fingerprinting is conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the University Police Center. The cost to be fingerprinted is $5 and must be paid at the time of service by cash, check or debit/credit card.

Temporary Action Cards

If a student's mobile phone is lost or stolen, or if their mobile ACT Card stops working after hours or on weekends, temporary cards are available at the University Police Center. The temporary card will allow students to access their card services, including debit accounts, for one week from issuance. Cardholders are requested to bring their driver's license or another form of ID when requesting a temporary ACT Card. Cardholders who do not have a photo ID will be verified against their picture in the ACT Card Transact system prior to being issued a temporary card.

Police Reports

If you are involved in an automobile accident on campus and need to obtain an accident report for insurance purposes, visit the UAPD Records Office in the lobby of the UA Police Center at 1110 Jackson Ave., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. Accident report fees are $5, and may be paid in cash, check or debit/credit card. The Records Office is not open on the weekends or for UA-observed holidays.

An Alabama Uniform Incident/Offense Report for a crime that was committed within the last 90 days may be obtained on the Daily Crime Log. For incidents older than 90 days, please visit the Records Office.

Please allow five (5) business days before inquiring about a report. To make sure your report is ready before coming to the UA Police Center, you can email ua.police@ua.edu or call 205-348-5454 and ask for the Records Office.

Medication Disposal

If you have old medication that you need to discard, UAPD offers a locked medication disposal drop box provided by CVS Pharmacy in the UA Police Center. Simply enter the lobby and ask to be taken to the medication drop box. The drop box accepts prescription and over-the-counter medicines, prescription patches and ointments, vitamins, samples, and even pet medicines. Illegal narcotics, inhalers, syringes and medical devices are not accepted. There is no charge for the service and no forms to fill out.

Extra Police Patrols

UAPD offers extra police patrols at the request of UA faculty, staff and students. These requests can be made by calling 205-348-5454 and asking to speak to the on-duty supervisor about an extra patrol. Some reasons you may request an extra patrol are for a concern of criminal activity in an area on campus, or if you know an area will be unattended for an extended period of time.

Weapons Storage for On-Campus Residents

The University of Alabama prohibits the possession, transportation and use of firearms and other dangerous weapons on campus at any time. For more information, see UA's Dangerous Weapons and Firearms Policy.

However, we understand that some students who live on campus want to bring weapons to campus to use for legal purposes such as hunting and target practice at off-campus locations.

Students who live on campus in residence halls, University apartments or Greek houses can store their weapons for free at the UA Police Center. The weapons must be stored in a solid hard case.

Weapons can be checked in or out with a valid photo ID, such as a state-issued driver's license. We request that students give at least a 12-hour notice to a UAPD supervisor when they want to check out their weapon.

Due to space limitations, UAPD can only store weapons for on-campus residents. Students who live in off-campus apartments or rental homes should check with their leasing agent about their particular firearms policy.
