University Police Investigate Robbery – 09/12/09

SEPTEMBER 12, 2009

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

A male University of Alabama student reported to University Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Manderson Landing off of Jack Warner Parkway. The student reported he was sitting near the river when he was approached by two unknown males. One of the males struck the student and then took property from him. Both males left the area in an older model white SUV. The student did not suffer injuries that required hospital treatment.

The description provided of the suspects is as follows:

Suspect one:

  • Male
  • Dark complexion
  • Bald
  • Approximately 5′ 08″ in height, thin build
  • Wearing a black shirt

Suspect two:

  • Male
  • Dreadlocks to below ears
  • Dark complexion
  • Approximately 5′ 06″ in height
  • Wearing baggy blue jean shorts

University Police Investigate Robbery – 07/28/09

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

A 40 year old male University of Alabama community member reported to University Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009. The victim reported that he was approached by unknown males while walking in the 300 block of Stadium Drive east of Presidential Apartments. One of the males struck the victim with a fist and property was taken. All subjects then left the area running in an easterly direction. The victim was treated for minor injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center and released. The descriptions provided of the suspects are as follows:

Suspect one:
Teenage male, dark complexion, 5’08” – 5’11” in height, approximately 150 lbs, wearing a black shirt, black shorts and sports-style tennis shoes.

Suspect two:
Teenage male, dark complexion, 5’06” – 5’09” in height, approximately 150 lbs, wearing a gray shirt and sports-style tennis shoes.

Suspect three:
Teenage male, dark complexion, 5’06” – 5’09” in height, approximately 150 lbs, wearing blue shorts and sports-style tennis shoes.

Sexual Assault Reported To Tuscaloosa PD – 02/24/09 *UPDATE – 06/12/09*

The Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit has obtained warrants for the arrest of Alexander Velazquez Hernandez in relation to this incident and a related incident that occurred on July 10, 2008 (see related advisory). The Alabama Department of Forensic Science notified Homicide Unit officials on June 10, 2009, that they had matched DNA taken from both incident scenes to a sample taken from Hernandez. At this time, Hernandez has not been located and police are asking for the public’s help in finding him. Hernandez is a hispanic male, age 24 (DOB/ 03-24-85), 5’06” tall and 156 lbs in weight.

FEBRUARY 24, 2009

OFF-CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT REPORTED TO TUSCALOOSA POLICE

On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, a female UA student reported to Tuscaloosa Police that she was a victim of a sexual assault by an unknown male. The assault occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. in an apartment on Reed Street. The male gained entrance to the apartment by stating that he was there to address a maintenance issue; once inside, he assaulted the victim.

The description provided of the suspect is as follows:

  • Hispanic male
  • Age 20’s
  • Approximately 5’ 06″ to 5′ 08″ in height
  • Stocky build
  • Black hair – very short on sides, long on top
  • Possibly has a light mustache

ARRESTS MADE IN OFF-CAMPUS BURGLARY

Tuscaloosa Police investigators developed information leading to the arrest of four individuals in connection with the incident listed below. All four were charged with both burglary and robbery. No other suspects are being sought in connection with this incident.

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS BURGLARY

Two individuals reported to Tuscaloosa Police that they were the victims of a burglary that occurred at approximately 12:20 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009. The individuals reported that they were approached by four unknown males while sitting in front of a residence in the 1000 block of 13th Street. One of the unknown males brandished a firearm and demanded money. Some of the unknown males then accompanied the victims inside the residence and took money and property. The unknown males left running in an unknown direction. The victims did not suffer injuries.

The description provided of the suspect is as follows:

  • Males – Dark Complexion
  • Age: late teens – early twenties
  • One male was wearing a red t-shirt and black shorts
  • One male was wearing a black t-shirt and baggy blue jeans
  • One male was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jean shorts
  • One male was wearing a green t-shirt and green, yellow, and white plaid pants

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

A male University of Alabama student delivery driver reported to University Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the 400 block of 7th Avenue NE (a residential complex approximately seven-tenths of a mile east of the main campus). The student reported he was on the job and had just made a food delivery when he was grabbed from behind by an unknown male who possessed a handgun. There was a second unknown male who stood to the side and watched. The unknown male used physical force and took property from the victim. At this point the victim struggled with the unknown male and the male struck the victim with the handgun. Both males left the area running in a southeasterly direction. The student did not suffer injuries that required medical treatment.

The description provided of the suspects is as follows:

  • Males
  • Early 20’s
  • Dark complexion
  • Both suspects were approximately 6′ 00″ in height, 180 lbs
  • Suspect one wore a red shirt and jeans
  • Suspect two wore a black shirt and jeans

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

A 21 year-old non-UA male reported to Tuscaloosa Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 12:30 A.M. on Friday, March 20, 2009. The victim reported that he was approached by two unknown males while standing outside of an apartment in the 1100 block of Dr. Edward Hilliard Drive. The unknown males displayed a firearm and took property from the victim.  During the incident, a scuffle ensued which resulted in the victim sustaining a non-life threatening injury. The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction

The descriptions provided of the suspects are as follows:

              Suspect 1:

  • Male – Medium Complexion
  • Age –  unknown
  • Approximately 6’00″ in height
  • Approximately 250 lbs in weight
  • Unknown clothing description.

Suspect 2:

  • Male – Medium Complexion
  • Age –  unknown
  • Approximately 5’10″ in height
  • Approximately 330 lbs in weight
  • Unknown clothing description.

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

A male University of Alabama student reported to University Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009. The student reported he was approached by three unknown males while walking in the east H. M. Comer lot. The unknown males used physical force and took property from the victim. All three then left the area running in a northerly direction, where they were joined by a fourth male. The student did not suffer injuries that required medical treatment.

The description provided of the suspects is as follows:

  • Males
  • All in late teens
  • Dark complexion
  • Suspect one: Approximately 6′ 02″ in height; wearing a blue and black hat, brown jacket, and jeans
  • Suspect two: Approximately 5′ 07″ in height; wearing a long sleeved orange shirt, baggy black pants, and glasses
  • Suspect three: Medium build with dreadlocks; wearing a black coat
  • Possible suspect vehicle: A large black SUV

A female University of Alabama student reported to Tuscaloosa Police that she was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 1:45 A.M. on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The student reported that she was approached by an unknown male in the 700 block of 12th Avenue. The unknown male used physical force and took property from the victim, then left running in an easterly direction. The student did not suffer injuries that required medical attention.

The description provided of the suspect is as follows:

  • Male – Medium Complexion
  • Age –  20’s
  • Approximately 5′ 07″ in height
  • Approximately 160 lbs in weight
  • Wearing a dark shirt and pants and dark cap

A male University of Alabama student reported to University Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 01:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2008. The male reported he was approached by three unknown males while walking in the Tutwiler lot. The unknown males took property from the victim. All three then left the area running in an eastwardly direction. The victim was treated for minor injuries.

  • Males
  • 16 to 18 years of age
  • Dark complexion
  • Approximately 5’08” to 5’10” in height
  • Approximately 150 lbs in weight
  • One male was wearing a dark hooded shirt

TUSCALOOSA POLICE TAKE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY REPORT

A non-UA male reported to Tuscaloosa Police that he was the victim of a robbery that occurred at approximately 01:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2008. The male reported he was approached by three unknown males while walking in the 400 block of Grace Street. The unknown males, one of whom was armed with a pistol, took property from the victim. All three then left the area running in an eastwardly direction. The victim was not injured.

The description provided of the suspects is as follows:

  • Males
  • Age 20’s
  • Ranging in height from 5’08” to 5’10”
  • All of slim build
  • All wearing dark pants; two with black shirts and the other with a khaki shirt
