University Police Investigate Robbery – 4/26/2015

The University Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred at the Riverside substation. On 04-26-2015 at approximately 3:05 a.m., two individuals reported that they were the victims of a robbery. The victims reported they were walking north on Campus Drive when a vehicle approached them from southbound. The vehicle stopped and a male subject exited the vehicle. At that time, the male produced a handgun and demanded money from the victim’s pockets. The victims gave him cash and property and fled the area driving south on Campus Drive. The victims were not injured.  

The suspect is described as follows:

Black Male
Dark skin
Approximately 5’8″ – 5’11″
Weighing 200-215 lbs
Wearing black tee-shirt, and dark colored pants
Mid-20’s in age

 
Vehicle:
Dark colored (possibly maroon) 2000’s model SUV

April 7, 2015

UAPD investigators conducting the follow-up investigation in this case have identified the individuals involved and have developed probable cause to charge two suspects with Robbery II.

Brandon Malik Gardner, a 19 yr. old male, was arrested on 04-01-15 and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he was held on an $8,000 bond.

Marquez Jemone Hughes, a 21 yr. old male, was arrested on 04-07-15 and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he was held on a $30,000 bond.

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

The University Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the Paty parking lot on campus. On 03-29-2015 at approximately 8:08 p.m., an individual reported that he was the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that he was talking on his cell phone while walking to his vehicle when he was approached by two males, one of whom asked to use the victim’s phone. The victim handed the first male his phone, who in turn handed the phone to the second male who fled the area on foot toward Ferguson Center. The victim chased after the second male but was struck from behind by the first male. That suspect then entered a red 2000’s model four-door vehicle, which left the area on 2nd Street. The victim sustained only minor injuries.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1:

Black Male

Approximately 6’2″ – 6’4″

240 lbs

Short hairstyle

Wearing blue basketball shorts, white tee shirt

Approximately 18-24 years old

Suspect 2:

Black Male

5’10”- 6’0″

180 lbs,

Short hairstyle

Wearing grey tank top, black shorts

Approximately 18-24 years old.

He may have had a tattoo on his chest

Possible Suspect 3:

Black Male

5’8″-5’10”

160 lbs,

Longer curly hairstyle,

Wearing white tee shirt with red writing, and basketball shorts

Vehicle:

Red four-door 2000’s model car occupied by a black female

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

The University Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 500 block of Roger Sayers Drive.  On 03-31-2015 at approximately 7:36 p.m., an individual reported that he was the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that he was sitting inside his vehicle when he was approached by two males, one of whom asked the victim a question. The two males then walked to the back of the vehicle and the victim exited to ask what they were doing.  At that time, one of the males produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. The victim gave them cash and property, and the two males fled running east. The suspects got into a dark colored late 2000’s model car and left, driving east on University Boulevard. The victim was not injured.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1:
Black Male
Approximately 5’6″ – 5’10″
Slender build
Wearing grey hoodie
Early to mid-20’s in age

Suspect 2:
Black Male
5’6”- 5’10″
Slender build
Wearing grey shirt
Early to mid-20’s in age.

Vehicle:
Dark colored (possibly dark blue) late 2000’’s model car

POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

On 12-9-2014 at approximately 12:15 am, Tuscaloosa Police responded to an off campus robbery that occurred in the 300 block of Reed Street. The victim reported that while walking, she was approached by two suspects who walked up to her, displayed weapons and demanded money. The victim complied and both of the suspects fled the area in an older model gray sedan heading southbound. No injuries were reported. Both suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1

  • Black male
  • Approximately 5’05” 150 lbs
  • Wearing white bandanna on face
  • Wearing black sweat pants and black sweat shirt

Suspect 2

  • Black male
  • Approximately 6’02” 190 lbs
  • Wearing white bandanna on face

ARRESTS MADE IN ROBBERY CASES

University Police Department investigators were able to develop information leading to the identification of suspects in the robberies described below. Three suspects were arrested on February 11, 2013 for two counts of second degree robbery each, with a fourth suspect arrested for fraudulent use of a credit/ debit card relating to the case.

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

University Police are investigating the report of two robberies that occurred on February 11, 2013, the first at approximately 12:35 am and the second at approximately 1:20 am in the 800 block of Campus Drive and the 200 block of 7th Avenue. Two UA students reported that they were approached by two individuals asking for a light before being struck in the head and their belongings taken. The individuals are believed to have been occupying a dark colored SUV. No weapons were reported. The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1:

  • Male
  • Dark complexion
  • Slim build
  • Approximately 6’00 to 6’02”
  • Possibly with dreadlock hairstyle
  • Wearing black wind suit with a red beanie style hat

  • Male
  • Medium to dark complexion
  • Stocky build
  • Average height

POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

On 11-23-2014 at approximately 10:31 pm, Tuscaloosa Police responded to an off campus robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of 6th Street. The victim reported that he was driving on 6th Street and had stopped to turn around. While stopped, he was approached by two suspects who walked up to the vehicle, displayed a weapon and demanded money. The victim complied and both of the suspects fled the area on foot heading westbound on 6th Street. No injuries were reported.

Both suspects are described as follows:

  • White males
  • Approximately 5’10”-5’11”
  • Approximately 155lbs
  • Wearing black hooded shirts and dark pants

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

Tuscaloosa Police are investigating the report of an attempted kidnapping that occurred off-campus in the 1300 block of 9th Avenue on November 7, 2014 at approximately 1:07 am. The victim reported that she got out of bed to investigate a noise heard in another room. As she checked the room, an unknown male subject grabbed her from behind and forced her outside. The victim began to scream and the suspect released her and fled east from the area on foot. No weapons and only minor injuries were reported.
The victim described the suspect as:

  • Male

  • Approximately 180 lbs.
