Tuscaloosa Police Investigate Off-Campus Attempted Kidnapping/Assault -10/23/2014 — UPDATE

OCTOBER 28, 2014

During the course of the last seven days, investigators have received numerous leads on possible suspects and suspect vehicles. Investigators have identified and examined numerous vehicles that matched the description given, and earlier today, evidence was located that identified the vehicle used. A suspect, as well as other witnesses, has been located and interviewed.

On 10-28-2014 at 7:00pm, GABRIEL DORSETT SEALY, 32 yr. old male, was charged with Kidnapping I, Robbery I and Assault III. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a $126,000.00 bond.

OCTOBER 23, 2014

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING/ASSAULT

On 10-22-2014 at 8:35 pm, Tuscaloosa Police officers responded to 1801 10th Avenue concerning an assault of a 21 year old female UA student. The student reported that she was walking south on 10th Avenue when she was approached by a male in a dark colored SUV. The male suspect forcibly grabbed the student by the arms and attempted to force her into his vehicle. The student fought the suspect and nearby witnesses began yelling at the suspect. The student was able to get free and the suspect left the area in his vehicle, possibly heading south through a nearby apartment complex. No weapon was displayed. The student was treated on scene for minor injuries.

Tuscaloosa Police officers and Homicide Investigators worked into the night attempting to locate a suspect.

The suspect is described as follows:

  • Black male
  • Dark complexion
  • 25-35 years old
  • 6’02” – 6’03”
  • 250-300 lbs
  • Very short or no hair
  • No facial hair or tattoos visible
  • Wearing a dark jogging suit
  • Driving a dark colored SUV, possibly a 1998-2003 Dodge Durango

The investigation is continuing.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2014

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS HARASSMENT

The Tuscaloosa Police notified UAPD at approximately 11:00 am this morning that they are investigating a harassment that occurred on the Riverwalk running trail near the 2200 block of Jack Warner Pkwy (approximately 1 mile west of The Park at Manderson Landing). On September 21, 2014 at approximately 10:45 pm, the victim reported that she was jogging on the trail when the suspect emerged from the bushes in front of her and pushed her to the ground. The victim kicked the suspect, got to her feet and fled the area. No weapons or injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as follows:

  • a dark-skinned male
  • wearing dark pants and a dark shirt
  • approximately 6’00”

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

The Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of Paul Bryant Drive. On September 20, 2014 at approximately 9:48 pm, the victim reported that the suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her purse. The victim attempted to hold on to the purse but the suspect was able to take possession of it and fled the area on foot north toward 9th St. No weapons were reported.
The suspect is described as follows:

  • a dark-skinned male
  • wearing dark long pants, dark shirt and a brimmed safari style tan hat
  • approximately 5’08”
  • approximately 135 to 150 lbs

AUGUST 22, 2014

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS REPORT OF SEXUAL ABUSE

The Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a reported incident of sexual abuse (forcible sexual contact) that occurred in the 1000 to 1300 block of Paul Bryant Drive. On August 22, 2014 at approximately 12:40 am, an individual reported that she was the victim of sexual abuse. The victim reported that she was approached by a black sedan with three occupants. One of the occupants exited the vehicle and pushed her inside. After the victim was inside the vehicle, the occupants attempted to touch the victim inappropriately but the victim fought back and was able to exit the vehicle. The vehicle left in an unknown direction and no injuries were reported.

The suspects are described by the victim as three dark-skinned males driving a black sedan. No further information is available at this time.

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

The Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the 500 block of Red Drew Avenue. On July 18, 2014 at approximately 1:40 am, an individual reported that he was the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that the suspect approached him, displayed a pistol and demanded money.  The victim complied with his demands and the suspect fled the area southbound on Red Drew Avenue. No injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as follows:

  • Medium complexion
  • Approximately 5’09”
  • Approximately 200 lbs.
  • Wearing a black t-shirt

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF-CAMPUS ROBBERY

The Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the 500 block of 12th Avenue. On April 19, 2014 at approximately 11:29 pm, an individual reported that he was the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that the suspect approached him from behind and pointed a pistol at him. The suspect then removed the victim’s phone from his pocket and fled the area northbound on 12th Avenue. No injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as follows:
Suspect:

  • Male
  • Dark complexion
  • Stocky build
  • Short hair
  • Approximately 5’09”
  • Wearing a red/ purple long sleeve flannel shirt and tan pants
  • Occupying a older model, light color Nissan sedan

UNIVERSITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY

The University Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 800 block of 2nd Street on campus. On 12-9-13 at approximately 6:08 p.m., an individual reported that she was the victim of a robbery. The victim reported that while walking behind a residence hall on 2nd Street, an unknown individual stepped out in front of her and demanded money. The victim insisted repeatedly that she had none and she was pushed to the ground. The victim got up and fled the area. Nothing was taken from the victim and no weapons or injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as follows:

Male
-Light complexion
-Medium build
-Approximately 6 ft  in height
-Wearing black clothing and a black ski mask

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF- CAMPUS ROBBERY

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 600 block of University Blvd. On 11-16-13 at approximately 2:52 a.m., an individual (not UA affiliated) reported that he was the victim of a robbery. The victim stated the suspect initially approached him requesting a ride and the victim agreed. Once inside the vehicle, the suspect displayed a weapon and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect all of the money he had with him; however, the victim was then forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw more money. The victim was then forced to drive the suspect to an unknown location in Tuscaloosa where the suspect exited the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The suspect is described as follows:

-20’s
-Approximately 5’08”
-Approximately 160 lbs
-Wearing black pants and a blue hooded shirt

TUSCALOOSA POLICE INVESTIGATE OFF- CAMPUS ROBBERY

Tuscaloosa Police are investigating the report of a robbery that occurred on October 13, 2013, at approximately 4:25 am near the intersection of University Boulevard and Caplewood Drive. A UA student reported that while walking along University Blvd she was pushed down from behind by an unknown male who then took the victim’s purse and left the area on foot. No weapon was reported during the incident and the student did not receive any injuries requiring medical treatment. The suspect is described as follows:

  • Medium complexion
  • Short dreadlock type hairstyle
